Starting a hike with the RTA

Two Hikers

This page summarizes how members should prepare themselves for outings with the RTA. The key thing to remember is to dress for and be prepared for weather conditions on the day of the outing. For a typical hike,

  • Bring lunch, water, sunscreen and insect protection where required.
  • Wear strong footwear and come prepared for weather changes.
  • Consider the level of difficulty of the hike to be undertaken. If in doubt about the degree of difficulty of a particular hike, ask the hike leader listed in the newsletter well in advance of the day of the planned hiking event.

Car pooling is organized at each of the meeting places. Passengers travelling with drivers share the cost of gas to the amount specified for each hike in the newsletter. For some hikes which include entry to a conservation area or provincial park, an additional fee is required which is shared among the car occupants.
