Extreme Hiking Challenge – 50th Anniversary25 Jan 2021
As part of the Rideau Trail Association’s 50th Anniversary, the RTA will be hosting an Extreme Hike Challenge on Saturday, May 1 2021. This Challenge is open to all interested hikers and outdoor fitness enthusiasts. The event will take place in the Central section of the Rideau Trail, with the start and finish being in the lovely town of Perth, Ontario. From Perth the trail heads South through woods and a few back roads and crosses through both the Mica Mines Conservation Area and Murphy’s Point Provincial Park. The turn around point will be just past the Lally Farm parking area inside Murphy’s Point Provincial Park. The start time for the Challenge is 6:00 AM, so plan to arrive at the Registration Area by 5:40 AM. Badges (as seen above) will be awarded onsite to successful participants.
Registration forms (for individuals or groups) may be found below. The registration will close on April 1 2021. The event is free to RTA members. The cost for non-members will be $20 per person.

The start and finish will be at Conlon Farm Recreation Complex, 127 Smith Drive, Perth, Ontario. Trail runners may also participate, though it should be noted that there are some narrow boardwalks and other areas where running will not be possible and that it is NOT a competiton. There will be several checkpoints along the way where refreshments, and some supplies, will be available. There will be vehicles on standby to deal with emergencies. In the event of extreme weather conditions, the alternate date will be Sunday, May 2.

*It is likely that some COVID-19 restrictions may still be in place on May 1. The event will be conducted in accordance with the guidance from health officials on the date. If it is not possible to do the event within those guidelines then it will be cancelled or postponed.
