Blue Trails Challenge

Most Hikers know that the Rideau Trail is about 325 km in length and that it runs between Kingston and Ottawa. This trail is managed and maintained by the Rideau Trail Association (RTA) and is marked with “Orange Blazes”. Less known is that the RTA also maintains over 60 additional trails which are not part of the Main Trail. These are marked with “Blue Blazes” and are referred to as the “Blue Trails”.

Some of these “Blue Trails” are short and are used to access the Main Trail, but many are longer, scenic, and worth hiking.

Twelve (12) of these “Blue Trails” have been selected to create the “Blue Trails Challenge”. In a similar concept to the Main Trail End to End challenge, hike all 12 “Blue Trails” and request your “Blue Trails Challenge” Badge.

Additional Information:

      • There is no time limit to completing the Blue Trail Challenge. Just like the Main End to End Challenge, it can be completed over multiple years.
      • When you are ready to submit your completed log, you can send it to your respective club’s Badge Secretary (Kingston; Central; Ottawa) from the Badges Page.
      • Be aware that some of the “Blue Trails” are relatively tough hikes; they are not all “easy hikes”, and we recommend you do not do them on your own
      • You can download a log sheet in either excel or pdf format linked below.
      • Note: The Blue Trail in Richmond has been abandoned, and replaced with one close to Bedford Mills. If you have already hiked the Richmond Blue Trail, and are still yet to complete the Blue Trail Challenge, you do not need to also complete the Bedford Mills Blue Trail. Please make a note of this when you submit your completed information. For questions, please contact Activities@RideauTrail.org. Thanks.
